Dave Mckay (who is an amazing young 62) of Berrynarbour took on the London Tri-athlon for a second year running all in the name of charity.

Last year Dave took on the challenge of one of the most arduous sporting events in the calendar. The event includes cycling, swimming and running.

Dave said "my immediate thought was just to complete the course but after a few tentative training excursions my goals began to creep up and I thought about trying to raise the some cash for the Lupus Trust. I'd never heard of the illness until my daughter, Shona, was diagnosed. In addition to raising money I hoped to raise awareness of Lupus". Dave incredibly raised over £7,600!

Shona said "Dad cycles or runs up and down the local hills on a daily basis and swims in the sea in his wetsuit. One day I was driving along when someone shot past me on a bike, I realised it was Dad!! Apart from all the training he also loves golf and barbeques every day, no matter what the weather. His 2 grandchildren; Alisha (4) and Keedie (2) love having such an active 'super granddad'."

Dave and his wife were living in Scotland in their dream house that they hoped to retire to, but year ago they took the decision to move closer to Shona so that they could help her if she needed it.

This year Dave beat his own personal best record and has so far raised an astounding £7,706!!!!!!
