Fundraising

When my friend Emily and I decided to run the Paris Marathon in April 2007, which would to be my first marathon (and as someone wholly unsporty a somewhat daunting prospect!) nothing could make all the sweat and tears more worthwhile than doing it for a good cause.

For me this cause was the St Thomas' Lupus Trust, which Emily kindly agreed to run for too. My mum has suffered from the debilitating effects of lupus for as long as I can remember and a chance to help and support the much needed research and raise awareness for this still relatively unknown condition, was all the motivation we could need. With temperatures already in the twenties as we set off at 8:45am there was no doubt that it was going to be a particularly gruelling experience.

The kind and generous sponsorship from so many family and friends undoubtedly helped keep us going in the unbearable heat and added to the feeling of immense satisfaction as we crossed the line 4hrs 50mins later having raised £3,624.38 for the Lupus Trust - Kate Walker. A big, big thank-you to Kate & Emily from us too!
