Hever Castle hosts World Lupus Day Event
What a beautiful day it was on 10th May (World Lupus Day), it was sunny, dry and very busy. My family and I decided that we wanted to help get the word out about lupus, as I have suffered for 10 years or so and recently nearly lost my life to it. Thanks to St. Thomas' Hospital I made a great recovery and am now expecting my second child. My husband works for Hever Castle in Kent so we asked if we could hold an event in the grounds and they were more than happy to help.
We had a stall as every one came in, with a banner saying 'Lupus, what's that'? It was very surprising how many of the 1,557 people who came through the gates had never heard of it (well they know now!). We had leaflets, notices, my story, balloons, donation buckets and a lucky dip (to get the children interested). We managed to raise £479, with donations and the lucky dip. Katy Webb.
