A cut above!
I wanted to help raise awareness of lupus, as most people I speak to don't know what it is and a handful of people say "Oh I've heard of that" yet don't actually know anything past its name. Working in a busy salon limited me to space and time. however, I was determined to do something on World Lupus Day!I went to work at KJM Salons in Fleet in my Lupus T-shirt. Put posters and leaflets around the salon, even in the w.c. ha ha - we've got to get peoples attention everywhere!! I handed out 'What is Lupus?' leaflets to each of my clients throughout the day and everyone asked me questions on the disease and left the salon with knowledge.
Each time I visit the Louise Coote Lupus Unit at St Thomas' with my mum we always purchase amazing butterfly jewellery to help raise funds. So I thought why not ask Angie Davidson if I could sell some of it. Clients were very supportive in purchasing the jewellery and loved them as they're not everyday pieces.
My boss, Kerry Mather, has generously donated £50! It is great to have achieved my goal of becoming a hairdresser and this is with thanks to Kerry. I would especially like to acknowledge how supportive and helpful she has been during my time at her salon. Thank you for helping me achieve my goal. To help my dad also kindly donated £25 and my Nan £20!My mum has sold beautiful pieces of jewellery at her work and my colleagues at the salon also found their favourites! The cute phone charms are very popular, along with the butterfly pin badges.
I chose to donate all my tips for the two weeks surrounding World Lupus Day. With the help and support of my colleagues, family and friends I have achieved my goal of raising awareness and much more as so far I have raised a total of £405 and the total is still rising with further sales of gorgeous jewellery! Lisa Rylett.
Our thanks to Lisa for marking World Lupus Day in such an imaginative way and for some really great fundraising & awareness!!
