Art Exhibition held in aid of the St. Thomas' Lupus Trust
March 14th - 20th 2004
March 14th - 20th 2004
Why the St Thomas' Lupus Trust?"Several of my friends have been coping with Lupus for a number of years. So when my sister's health began to deteriorate her symptoms seemed vaguely familiar.
However, at that particular time there was so little information available about the disease or it's diagnosis. The ability of the Lupus to mimic the symptoms of other illnesses meant that my sister's condition remained undetected until she suffered a heart attack.
Since then she has been a regular visitor to St. Thomas' Hospital where they are trying to raise awareness, continue research and develop treatments that will enhance and prolong the lives of Lupus sufferers worldwide".
How will funds be raised?
"There are two ways in which I hope the exhibition will raise funds for the charity. Firstly 25% of exhibition profits will be donated to the charity. Secondly an original framed work "Three Figures at an Exhibition" (shown in photograph on this page) will be raffled with all the money from the ticket sales going to the trust".
Why is the exhibition called Hope?
I learned recently of the death of Hope De Pass. Hope was an extraordinary person in many ways but her contribution to the arts is something I will always remember. She was instrumental in creating exhibition opportunities for so many aspiring artists in a variety of venues including hospitals. She was also an influential figure in her hometown of Henley where she became one of the key promoters of local artists through her association with the Henley Exhibition Centre.
The title also refers to the hope offered by the St. Thomas' Lupus Trust to the many people who continue to battle with Lupus on a daily basis.
What's on display at the exhibition?
Many of the pieces are from a new collection of work. Although the work can be viewed on the internet this will be the first public outing for many of the paintings such as Henry Street, Rowena's Dream, Side view of the Middle Floor and Spectre.
