Meet a Fellow

Dr Marissa Antunes – Portugal

I’m from Portugal and I work in one of the Hospitals in Lisbon that is the capital of my country. I’m almost finishing the speciality of Internal Medicine and in my hospital we also have a clinic for autoimmune diseases.

We usually see patients with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogrens syndrome. The patients are follow up by us in long term and if they need to be investigated or if their condition gets worst they are admitted in the Internal Medicine Ward.

The Portuguese Internal Medicine Society has several Study Nucleus and each of them focus in one specific autoimmune disease. Every internal medicine doctor can join in one of these Study Nucleus and be more up to dated. The patients can also be followed up by a rheumatologist.

We have also some support groups for the patients but most of them are private organisations.

I’m very pleased to be here and hope more doctors can also have the same opportunity as me. I also hope my country would develop a similar set up as Lupus Unit here to take better care for our lupus patients.
