Meet a Fellow

Dr Chiara Oliveri - Italy

I am an Italian medical doctor in the third year of my speciality. I work at the medical unit of the University Hospital of Genoa in Italy. My fellowship is “Allergology and Clinical Immunology”. My particular interest is in auto-immune diseases like Lupus and Hughes Syndrome.

In our hospital we see a lot of patients with auto-immune disease and I really think patients in Italy need to have some specialised units to manage their disease. I hope I and other doctors will be able to educate the patients about their illness and their treatment. I also hope that Italy is going to have more specialised centres and laboratories.

Here I have the opportunity to see many patients with Lupus and Anti-phospholipid Syndrome and to learn different approaches to their diagnosis, management and treatment. Next October, in Genoa, my mentor will open the first Lupus Unit, based on the Lupus Unit here in London. I am proud because Doctor Hughes will be present at the opening day of the new clinic to talk about the history of the Louise Coote Lupus Unit.

I am sure this great experience will be important to export the knowledge on Lupus and the Anti-phospholipid Syndrome.
